Today at work we recieved a bunch of fresh, beautiful poppies. I shook my head this morning to think that I actually forgot about these exceptional flowers. What a sight for winter-sore eyes! We have some Oriental Poppies (the last picture shown) in our backyard... nice and mature, and the best part is that they come back evey year! The bloom lasts only a couple of days, but so very worth it! These bright, papery flowers take me back to my early teenage years when my family and I would escape to a meadow near Alpine, Utah where every spring after church we'd pack a picnic and head up to "see the poppies." These bright orange flowers would be fluttering in the wind as we approached and we'd all comment on how lucky we were to make it in time to "see the poppies."
